Since the inception of the medium of photography, portraits have
no doubt been the most common subject for the camera. From early daguerreotypes to current cell phone snapshots,
our faces span the photographic spectrum.
We received
a record number of submissions for Uncommon Portraits: 289 photographers sent 1504 photographs for consideration.
Juror Cig Harvey chose 41 photos for the exhibition at PhotoPlace Gallery. Then, she chose an additional 35 photographs
for display only in our On-Line Gallery Annex. All of the photos can be viewed below.
Exhibition dates: March 9th through April 3rd.
Artists Reception: Saturday, MARCH 20th, 2-4 pm.
Juror: CIG HARVEY
Known
for her probing metaphoric self-portraits, Cig Harvey has been widely recognized for her skills as a photographer and educator.
Cig Harvey was one of the top 50 Critical Mass scorers in 2008 and won the 2008 Gold Award in the PDN self-portrait
competition. Moreover, her photo workshops have been cited as among the best photography workshops by American Photo Magazine.
PhotoPlace Gallery is especially honored to have her serve as a juror for Uncommon Portraits.
